In the beginning, before the Temptation to wealth and power set The Great Unravelling in motion, the past was considered a precursor. History lent continuity and comfort and even some rough clues to the future…and now, after years of plunder, the past is no longer an indicator of anything and the future, always up for grabs, may not have a lot going for it. To understand what’s important here, we offer two proofs (below), chosen from many.
First, remember the “American Dream”…everybody gets a chance at material happiness? Put the hard work in and get the goods? Sorry, but that timeline no longer exists. All the $$$ have already been taken and the “goods”, such as they are, are in short supply. Eight billion people are sure tough on the resources but, if you stay just in the moment, you’re probably doing pretty okay. Right? In the moment, being an American still looks pretty good…comparatively speaking…
Next, let’s do the “weather”, a word that once loosely suggested a pattern…like seasons, for instance. In fact, getting that right was how mankind got into Time in the first place: sowing and reaping and the beautiful security of continuity. “Harmony with Nature” was actually a thing. Well…that was then (for maybe a million years or so) and this is now. That timeline, embedded so deeply in the psyche, is now gone, the Earth knowingly exchanged for cash and the weather reduced to just a series of events so unpredictable that even the predictors can’t predict it…and the future looks to be pretty much “off the table”. But, in the moment, doesn’t it feel pretty much okay outside? Sunshine maybe and nothing from Channel 5’s Severe Weather Center? The moment is just the best! It will be your shelter from the storm. It is all the Time there ever was. It’s where all the action is. It is the key to the universe. Infinite realities and right now the music is playing…
